Awash National Park, 211 Kms east of Addis Ababa and covers 756 square kilometers. Awash national park was established in 1966 and one of the easily accessible NP. It is the oldest and most developed wild reserve in the country.

The park takes its name from the Awash River which marks the park’s southern boundary. It also contains an interesting range of volcanic landscapes including arid, semi arid wood land, some riverside forests , 76 mammal species like Swayne’s Harte beest, lion , ostrich, hamadryads baboon, salt’s dikdik , beisa Oryx, kori bustards….etc. as well as 451 bird species of which 6 are endemic –wattle- ibis, white –billed starling ,thick-billed raven and banded bar bet.
